LEWISTON – Marie-Ange Gobeil, 99, formerly of 132 Western Ave., Auburn, died Saturday morning, Nov. 13, at d’Youville Pavilion, where she had lived for the past seven years, with her family at her side.

She was born Dec. 8, 1904 in East Broughton, Canada, a daughter of Pierre and Amanda Gagne Perron. She was educated in Canada schools, where she also earned her teaching certificate. She taught in a one room school house, and remained as a school teacher prior to moving to this community with her widowed mother and six siblings.

On June 25, 1928, she married Amedee P. Gobeil, and together they had nine daughters. She worked as housewife and homemaker. Mr. Gobeil passed away Nov. 23, 1991.

Mrs. Gobeil was a longtime and very active member of Sacred Heart Church. She was also a member of the Ladies of St. Ann, and the Golden Age Club.

Her fondest joys were her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting crocheting, and for many years made many afghans and other items for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time in her vegetable and flower gardens.

When she was in her 70s, she took lessons in oil painting and did artwork for her family. It was also her scrapbook of newspaper clippings that became a book entitled “Memories of World War II,” a collection of stories and photos of servicemen and women from Lewiston and Auburn who fought in that war. This was sold as a fundraiser for the Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society.

She is survived by seven daughters and their husbands, Georgette and Richard Sampson, Mariette and Gerald Timberlake, all of Auburn, Monique and Andre Gagne of Lewiston, Marguerite and Paul Goulet of Lisbon, Patricia and Normand Marquis of Kingston, Okla., Claire and Charles Leduc of Brunswick, and Susanne and Michael Luciano of Jay; 30 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Regina Perron, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Anita in 1937, and Anne in 1948; and by eight sisters and six brothers.
