FARMINGTON – Mary Jane Hamel, 84, a former resident of Highland Avenue, Jay, died Friday, Nov. 12, at Sandy River Nursing Home in Farmington. She had previously resided at Pinewood Terrace in Farmington for 1-1/2 years, and for five years she had an apartment at the Livermore Falls bank building.
She was born Oct. 17, 1920, in Berlin, N.H., the daughter of Pearley and Mary Josephine Bircher Mandigo. She attended school in Berlin and the Livermore Falls school systems.
She married Leo L. Hamel on Nov. 27, 1941, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. They made their home and raised their family in Jay. He died June 19, 1986.
She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church.
She enjoyed reading, crafts, the Boston Red Sox, and was a very good cook.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Jo Hamel of Jay, Jean Potvin and her husband, Richard, of Glen Burnie, Md., and Jane DiPompo and her husband, Robert Nelson DiPompo Jr., of Jay; four grandchildren, Michael Hamel, Emma DiPompo, and Terri and Richard Potvin.
She was predeceased by her son, David Hamel; six sisters, Gladys Cloutier Constantine, Minnie Luciano, Viola LaBrecque, Violet Tardiff, Eloise Doiron, and Clara Frazier; three brothers, Gardell “Babe,” William “Bill,” and Roy Mandigo.
