Dear Sun Spots: We need Christmas help for families over the Christmas season.
The world is going through so many uncertain changes at this time, families are now more than ever seeking services.
At the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project, we work with families in Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties. We try to provide families that are starting over due to domestic violence with help. Sometimes they have to start over from scratch and begin a completely new life. These families only want the chance to be safe from harm, and we try to provide them with that safety.
We are asking the community to reach out and help these families that have been less fortunate find a way to enjoy the Christmas season. Imagine yourself telling your children that you have no way to provide Christmas this year because it is simply impossible; the thought is just heart-shattering. This year, families are having a hard time finding housing and, with utilities being so high for many families, Christmas will have to take a back seat.
When you choose the option to adopt a family for the Christmas season it is like helping people that you know because unfortunately domestic violence can affect any of us in some form or another. Anyone can be a victim of domestic violence: men, women, children, family members or co-workers. If you can’t or don’t have the time to adopt-a-family, any donation will gladly be appreciated. So please help us, so that the families in our communities don’t have to wake up Christmas morning without seeing Santa. The children in these families have already gone through so much, so please help these children have a Christmas this year.
If you would like to help us in any way please contact: Barbara, Claire or Jamie at (207) 754-2844. Thank you. – Terry G., AWAP Advocate, Auburn.
Dear Sun Spots: We would like to donate our beautiful Kimball electric organ to a nonprofit group who could use it. We don’t play it anymore and need the room. Besides two keyboards and pedals, it has the entertainer rhythm and other instrument sounds. There is also a bench. If you are interested, please call us at (207) 562-7172 or leave a message. – Patricia and Paul Jones, Dixfield.
Dear Sun Spots: Quite a few years ago, I bought a sweater at Bradlees in Lewiston which I have always liked. I still receive compliments on it whenever I wear it. The label inside is “Adele Knitwear. Made in USA.” They are probably out of business by now but would you please give it a try anyway to identify the manufacturer? If that is not possible, perhaps you could find information about current manufacturers of women’s knitwear, if there still are any in this country.
Thank you very much for your efforts. – No Name, No Town.
Answer: Contact Adele Knitwear at 1670 Weirfield St., Ridgewood, NY 11385, (212) 695-3244.
