LIVERMORE – A violation of the town’s Dog Control Ordinance has proven to be expensive, as an action brought against Jennifer L. Hart cost the town $1,237.50 in legal fees. The judge awarded the town a fine of $618.75, only half of the cost.
The town had taken action against Hart on Oct. 19, seeking a motion of contempt as she had failed to comply with provisions of a Jan. 28 order to erect two enclosures for her dogs by June 1.
Townspeople at the June 10 annual town meeting repealed the ordinance that had been approved in 2000, replacing it with one that allows the animal control officer and the local code enforcement officer – rather than an attorney – to handle enforcement.
In other legal action, Code Enforcement Officer Richard Marble is continuing to pursue the matter of a landowner who has built a road to the shore on Long Pond in violation of the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance.
Marble has reported some encouraging news to the selectpersons, noting that building permit applications for the first 10 months of this year represented $2,157,799 in new building value. At a mill rate of 14.1, that equals $30,413 in new taxes on improved property in town based on building permit applications, he said.
Town Clerk Renda Libby reported Livermore had a record turnout for the Nov. 2 election, with 1,311 ballots cast by the roughly 1,700 registered voters, a 77 percent turnout. Of that number, 180 were absentee ballots, she said, another record.
