AUGUSTA – The Maine Education Association announces the availability of the Clyde Russell Scholarship applications for 2005. The scholarships were established for Maine residents through a trust created by the late Audrey Lewis, association president in 1958, in memory of Clyde Russell, who served as executive director from 1945 to 1966.

Each year scholarships may be awarded in five categories: graduating high school seniors; graduating high school seniors who will attend a Maine community college; full- or part-time college or graduate students; full- or part-time Maine community college students; and junior, senior or graduate students in a teacher preparation program.

In all categories the awards will be major in nature, not to exceed $10,000. The two awards for community college students will not exceed $2,500 each.

Application forms for full- or part-time college or graduate students, full- or part-time Maine community college students, and junior, senior or graduate students in a teacher preparation program have been sent to all financial aid officers in institutions of higher education in Maine.

Application forms for graduating high school seniors and graduating high school seniors who will attend a Maine community college have been sent to all high school guidance offices in the state. All types have been sent to local libraries and town offices in the state.

Application forms may also be obtained by writing to the Clyde Russell Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 2457, Augusta, ME 04338, or by going to the Web site at www.clyderussellscholarshipfund.org. When requesting a form, note which type of scholarship form is being requested. The deadline for completed applications is Feb. 1.
