BETHEL – Three police officers were injured and four people arrested early Friday after a domestic dispute on Songo Pond Road.
State police Trooper Kyle Tilsley, Oxford County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Gary Hill and Bethel Patrolman Shane Thomas were reportedly assaulted by Robert F. Tuttle, 36, of 313 Songo Pond Road as they arrested him at his home about 2 a.m.
Tuttle was charged with three counts of assault on an officer after allegedly punching the men in the face, Oxford County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Jim Miclon said. Thomas also suffered a leg injury in the scuffle, Miclon said.
Tuttle was also charged with domestic assault on a woman, disorderly conduct, failure to submit to arrest and criminal threatening. He was taken to Oxford County Jail, where bail was set at $5,000 cash.
Tuttle was transferred later Friday to Androscoggin County Jail, Miclon said.
Other residents of the home arrested on charges of obstructing government administration were Corey Edingbourgh, 22, a 17-year-old male juvenile and a 16-year-old female juvenile. Edingbourgh was released on $500 bail and the two juveniles were released to their aunt.
The boy also faces a charge of assault on an officer, according to jail records.
Miclon said the incident began when a woman came to the Bethel Police Department on Main Street to report that Tuttle had tried to choke her. She was treated by Bethel Rescue and did not require hospital care, he said.
Tilsley, Miclon, Thomas and Bethel Police Chief Alan Carr then went to Robert Tuttle’s home to arrest him, Miclon said.
“From there it got crazy,” he said. Tuttle and the other people arrested started screaming and became very combative, and additional police were called in, Miclon said.
Before the night was over, 12 police officers had responded to the scene: two from Norway, two from Rumford, three from Bethel, three from Oxford County, one from Bridgton, and Trooper Tilsley.
Court dates have not yet been set in the case.
