TURNER – Corinne L. McLaughlin, 94, of Turner, died peacefully, at her home on Friday, Nov. 12, after an extended illness.

She was born in Bowdoinham on Feb. 14, 1910, the daughter of Gertrude and Leonard Lermond. She was educated in Gorham schools and graduated in 1929 from Gorham Normal School, now the University of Southern Maine, with a life teaching certificate.

Her first teaching assignment was in the town of Turner, whereupon she met her future husband, Ronald C. McLaughlin. They were married on Aug. 23, 1933, and resided in Turner for the remainder of their lives.

She started her teaching career in one-room schools located in both Turner and East Buckfield and then went on to teach in various elementary schools, also located in Turner. She retired in 1972 with a total of 27 years. She thoroughly enjoyed her teaching profession and especially helping her students achieve success in their educational pursuits.

In addition to her teaching career, she also helped her husband, Ronald, in the operation of his finishing mill.

To her, one of the greatest accomplishments of her life was raising her family. She was a very devoted mother and extremely proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a founding member of the Turner Village Mother’s Club, held various offices in the Order of the Rebekahs, belonged to the Maine Retired Teachers Association, the Maine Education Association, National Education Association-Retired and the Maine Association of Retirees.

Survivors include two sons, Clifton and his wife, Elke, of Villanova, Pa., and Sheldon and his companion, Lois Franklin, of Turner; one daughter, Sharon Bremner and her companion, Clifton Ledger, of Turner; four grandchildren, Martha Butcher and David McLaughlin, of Turner, Clifton McLaughlin Jr., of Berwyn, Pa., and Kendall Bremner, of Lewiston; and six great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kristen and Kacie Butcher and Derek and Scott McLaughlin, all of Turner and Grace McLaughlin, of Berwyn, Pa.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Ronald, Jan. 22, 1991, two sisters, Dorothy Kimball and Gladys Cargill, two brothers, Paul and Clayton Lermond, a daughter-in-law, Rhoda McLaughlin, and a great-grandson, Brett Ronald McLaughlin.
