We have killed over 100,000 Iraqi civilians.

Today, Fallujah is burning. Many insurgents have not stayed for this battle; they have moved on and taken over huge areas in Baghdad, Ramadi, Samarra, Latifiyah, Kirkuk and Mosul. In Fallujah, an Iraqi doctor who requested anonymity has told al-Quds Press that “the U.S. occupation troops are gassing resistance fighters and confronting them with internationally banned chemical weapons.” The Washington Post has confirmed that U.S. troops are firing white-phosphorus rounds that create a screen of fire impervious to water.

We are told by a clear-talking American officer that the insurgents are shooting from mosques and therefore don’t fight by international rules of war. But we have already scoffed at the Geneva Conventions and our next candidate for U.S attorney general has stated that the torture of captives may be necessary.

It is clear that this administration is desperate for a solution in Iraq and that in order to achieve it, they are going to continue with their already failed policy. They are proud of their inflexibility; they do not waver.

They are proud of their ethics, of their morality. Filling the streets of Fallujah with cluster bombs, tearing the limbs off children who lie dying without medical care because they have no doctors and no supplies does not merit consideration. They believe it is far more important to save a handful of organized cells inside a womb than millions of Iraqi children.

And Jesus loves them anyway.
