RANGELEY – Several incidents of criminal mischief were reported in Rangeley in the last week though none seem to be related, according to Police Chief Philip Weymouth.
Two incidents of smashed car windows were reported Thursday. The driver’s side window was punched out of a truck parked on Main Street sometime overnight. The truck had been parked in front of Sarge’s Pub and Grub, and the vehicle’s owner believes the culprit was a “former” friend.
Another vehicle window was reported smashed at 1:12 p.m. the same day. Weymouth believes children threw a rock through a van window while it was parked on Center Street.
A trailer parked on a lot on Stratton Road was reported to have been shot at with a BB gun sometime before 11:07 a.m. Sunday. Again, Weymouth believes it was kids.
He said he had been casually talking with a parent recently who told him that her child had been hanging around with others who were shooting BBs at each others’ feet. No complaint was filed in reference to the incident.
“We know who they are,” said Weymouth, alluding to the BB gun shooters. He said he tries to work with parents to prevent these sorts of scenarios.
