FARMINGTON – A former state lawmaker and retired Maine judge was injured Tuesday when his vehicle was hit from behind on Wilton Road.

Former state Sen. John Benoit, 73, stopped his 2004 Pontiac in the eastbound lane to take a left turn into Silver Shear, Farmington police Lt. Jack Peck said.

Due to driver inattention, Peck said, a 2003 Chrysler minivan operated by Jessica Casey, 28, of Rumford struck the back of Benoit’s vehicle.

Benoit received a deep laceration over his eye and was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington by LifeStar ambulance service, Peck said. He was treated at the hospital and released, according to hospital spokeswoman Jill Gray.

Benoit’s wife, Judy Benoit, 65, and Casey were not injured, Peck said.

Estimated damage to Benoit’s vehicle is $5,000, Peck said, and to Casey’s vehicle, $3,000.

No summonses were issued, Peck said.

Farmington firefighters and Farmington Officer Conley Gould assisted Peck at the scene.
