PARIS – Students in the marketing class at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School are busy preparing for the 30th annual DECA Holiday Craft Fair on Nov. 20.
The fair, with more than 150 crafters, is considered the biggest craft show in western Maine and attracts hundreds of people from the region. The admission fee of $1 for adults, and the booth-rental fee of $45 provides the marketing students with their biggest fund-raiser for the year.
The class netted $10,000 last year from the fair, said Kyle Raymond, who is co-chairing this year’s fair with Kellie Sunderland. Both are juniors and part of the Marketing II class at the high school.
The show will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the high school on Route 26. To celebrate the 30th anniversary, crafters will be doing demonstrations in their booths, Sunderland said.
The fair will also feature gift-wrapping, the Viking Travel Choir, free baby-sitting, more than 75 door prizes, lunches and pictures with Santa Claus from noon to 2 p.m.
The crafters will display such items as Victorian lampshades, dog clothing, baskets, potpourri, jewelry, jams, fudge, fleece items, pottery, antique framed pictures, stained glass items, balsam products, oil paintings, floor cloths, bookends, pewter items, jewelry and a variety of Christmas decorations.
The students say the class began planning for the fair at the end of last year.
“It’s a pretty huge process,” said Raymond.
