HARTFORD – Selectmen will meet tonight although no agenda was set for the meeting as of Wednesday.

Deputy Town Clerk Zoe Cowett said Selectman Scott Swain was expected to set the agenda. Swain could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Town Clerk Monica Mailly resigned Nov. 9. In a letter to the selectmen she said, “It is with sincere apologies that I can not continue to work under the stressful conditions that have been created.”

Whether or not Mailly’s resignation is discussed tonight, how town clerks are appointed will be a question presented to voters just days later at a special town meeting.

Former Deputy Town Clerk Lianne Bedard on Oct. 25 submitted a petition to the town office. The document asks voters to consider changing the positions of town clerk, tax collector, town treasurer and assistant to the selectmen from appointed to elected positions beginning with the 2005 town meeting.

Voters also will be asked whether the town should:

• pay for the heat and electricity at Town Hall for monthly potluck suppers.

• take money from its fund balance to pay for curbside pickup in the Pine Shores subdivision.

• move money from the fund balance to the administration account to pay for training a new deputy town clerk and treasurer.

• adopt an ordinance establishing the Comprehensive Planning Board as a full-time board.

• adopt a Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The special meeting will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Town Hall.

Tonight’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall.
