I travel Route 4 every day from Turner Village to Livermore Falls. It’s a very depressing ride, especially lately. This road is beginning to look like a graveyard. Recently, there have been two fatal crashes, both of which have been caused by passing cars.

Years ago, the state had a plan to expand the road, making it four lanes – one travel lane and a passing lane. Think about all the deaths that would have been prevented had this been done.

Maybe it had something to do with people losing part of their road frontage or maybe with the environment.

If I lived on Route 4, I think I’d rather lose part of my front lawn for a passing lane rather than a plot for a cross planted in memory of a crash victim. I see so many close calls every day.

If the expansion cannot be done, then people need to slow down. Life is too short. Arrive alive.

I sincerely hope the state takes another look at this problem before too many more fatalities occur. That road is in much need of improvement.
