PALESTRA, N.J. – Eileen Flaherty scored a team-high 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Bowdoin College to a 65-41 victory over the College of New Jersey in women’s basketball Friday night.
Justine Pouravelis drained 10 points and Alison Smith added nine points and nine rebounds for the Polar Bears (1-0).
New Jersey’s (0-1) Theresa DiMedio scored a game-high 17.
Wellesley 75, Colby 63
WATERVILLE – Alexandra Allukian scored a game-high 29 points to carry Wellesley to a 75-63 victory over Colby in women’s basketball Friday night.
Sefi Adasi also pitched in with 12 points and 16 rebounds for Wellesley (1-0). Wendy Bonner led Colby (0-1) with 15 points and 14 boards.
Hamilton 63, St. Joe’s 42
WATERVILLE – Tricia Czeski scored 15 points and 14 rebounds to lead Hamilton to a 63-42 win over St. Joseph’s in women’s basketball action at the Colby Tip-Off Tourney Friday.
Hamilton received double-digit scoring from Jessica Barrows, Alicia Giglio, and Pumla Sathula. Megan Tetrault led the Monks with 12 points.
Women’s hockey
Middlebury 3, Bowdoin 0
BRUNSWICK – Emily Quizon recorded a goal and two assists as Middlebury blanked Bowdoin in women’s ice hockey action Friday.
The Panthers (1-0) took advantage of a late break in the first period when Quizon converted a Polar Bear (0-1) turnover for a goal with 10 seconds remaining.
Bowdoin goalie Cat MacEachern allowed three goals on 19 shots, while Kate Kogut earned the shutout with 28 saves for Middlebury.
Manhattanville 8, USM 0
GORHAM – Senior Jenn Mulick scored a pair of goals and notched one assist to lead Manhattanville to an 8-0 triumph over the University of Southern Maine in ECAC women’s East ice hockey Friday.
The Valiants (5-0-0) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after one behind Mulick’s pair of goals and a single from Darcie Jarvis and Cherie Stewart.
Sophomore Justene Larnerd made 20 saves in goal for the Huskies (1-1-0), while senior Nicole Elliott stopped all 15 shots she faced to post the shutout for Manhattanville.
Colby 2, Williams 1
WATERVILLE – Heather DeVito scored with 5:02 remaining in the game to propel Colby College to a 2-1 win over Williams College in NESCAC women’s ice hockey action Friday.
DeVito had both goals for the Mules (1-0), the first off an assist from Erin Schlossman and the game-winner from Meghan Barringer.
Ashley Wood tied the game at 1-1 with 5:21 left in the first period for Williams.
Colby first-year goaltender Genevieve Triganne had 32 saves in a game where the Mules were outshot by a 33-13 margin.
Men’s hockey
Bowdoin 6, NEC 1
HENNIKER, N.H. – Six different players recorded goals as Bowdoin College thumped New England College 6-1 in men’s hockey action Friday.
The Polar Bears (1-0) scored three times in the first 19 minutes to put the contest out of reach early. Will Reycraft scored his first career goal at the 4:13 mark, before James Gadon found the back of the net five minutes later and Adam Dann rounded out the period at the 19-minute mark.
George Papachristopoulos was strong in goal for Bowdoin with 25 saves.
