PARIS – A registered violent sexual predator living in Jay was sentenced Friday morning in Oxford County Superior Court after admitting he violated a probation condition.

Ashley A. Wing, 57, of 278 Main St. was sentenced by Judge Ellen Gorman to serve three years of the suspended portion of his initial sentence in Oxford County Jail. His probation was terminated.

Wing was convicted on a charge of gross sexual assault for engaging in a sexual act with a girl under the age of 14 on Dec. 5, 2000, in Superior Court.

He was sentenced to six years in jail with all but 90 days suspended, and placed on 10 years probation. Wing also had to register as a sexually violent predator.

A probation condition was that he have no contact with children under the age of 16.

At his probation revocation hearing Friday, Gorman said that Wing had violated the condition on Oct. 26 in Jay when he had contact with the victim of that assault.

Wing’s lawyer, John Jenness, attempted to downplay the incident, and Wing’s other three violations. Jenness said that on Oct. 26, the victim had simply walked into the house where Wing lived with his mother.

“He keeps getting himself into innocuous situations,” having inadvertent contacts with the victim, Jenness said.

But, rather than side with Jenness that Wing be placed on probation again to get counseling, Gorman remanded Wing back to Oxford County Jail where he has been held without bail since Nov. 5.
