JAY – William Harold “Bill” Turner, 66, of Jay, died Friday, Nov. 19, at his home.

He was born, Aug. 5, 1938, in Farmington, a son of Andrew and Thelma (Colburn) Turner. He attended Chesterville and Wilton schools graduating from Wilton Academy.

On Oct. 24, 1958, he married, Leanne Cook in Livermore Falls.

He worked in the woods and was a horseman his entire life. His race horses were one of two loves in his life. The other was his grandchildren.

In 1990, he was awarded the Maine Harness Horse Association Trainer of the Year.

He is survived by his wife, Leanne, of 46 years; five children, Brenda Clark and her husband, Matthew, of Jay, Darren Turner and his wife, Ellen, of New York, Barbara Burditt and her husband, Scott, of Hampden, Donna Lary and her husband, Michael, of Florida, and Kristen Grondin and her husband, Michael, of Jay; 13 grandchildren, Adam, Ashley and Austin Clark, Anne, Valerie and William Turner, Noah, Gabe and Simon Burditt, Alex, Mackenzie and Jessica Lary and Lorne Grondin; a brother, Malcolm Turner, of Jay; and a sister, Nancy Clemens, of Chesterville.

He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Geraldine Currier, and three brothers, Melvin, Durward and Jack Turner.
