NORWAY – Editha G. Aldrich, 88, of Pleasant Street, Norway, died Friday, Nov. 19, at Stephens Memorial Hospital, Norway.
Born Editha Myra Glover in Andover on April 3, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Jesse A. and Winnifred (Learned) Glover. She graduated from Andover High School in 1933 and graduated from Pelletier’s Beauty School. She worked in Norway for a few years before buying and operating Princess Beauty Salon. She opened her first salon at Norway Lake in the 50s. She had a salon on Main Street, Norway, before moving to South Paris, then built a new home on Pleasant Street in Norway, and moved her shop into her home, where she worked for more than 25 years.
She was a member of the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, and a member of the women’s circle there. She was a member of Norway Grange #45, member of Retired Senior Volunteer Person, member of the Past President Business and Professional Women’s Club, a member of Maine State Cosmetologist Association, and a member of the South Paris Historical Society.
She was married in Norway on Sept. 28, 1960, to the late Homer C. Aldrich, who died in Norway on Nov. 22, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Luther Grover, of Oxford; two daughters, Priscilla and her husband, F. Stanley Gammon, of Stoneham, and Winnifred Plourde of Auburn; a brother, Sylvanus and his wife, Harriet Glover, of East Andover; three sisters, Christine Ladd of East Andover, Natalie Littlehale of Andover, and Virginia Salisbury of Belfast; a special granddaughter, Ann; two stepdaughters, Mary and her husband, Stanley Grover, of South Paris, Martha and her husband, Murray Shaw, of Pennsylvania.; two step sons, Charles and his wife, Carol Aldrich, of St. Johnsbury, and Stephen and his wife, Joyce Aldrich, of Roxbury; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Grover of South Paris; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Myra, in 1955; a son, Richard, in 1986; and a brother, Harold, in 2004.
