This is in response to the Sun Journal story, “Deadly pursuit” (Nov. 14).
I would like to pass on my sympathy to the Quinn family for their terrible loss. I cannot imagine how they must feel. I am sure they must have a lot of questions about that day.
Ryan Quinn made bad decisions, and they caused his death. We, as part of society, require police protection. They do their thankless job very well from what I have witnessed. Blaming the police for the job we expect them to do is ridiculous.
Had Ryan lost control and killed someone else and was not pursued by the police, then, and only then, could anyone say they were negligent.
Police work is a thankless job, but they do it very well when making fast and hard decisions in a split moment.
They are like you and me and have children of their own and have feelings because they are human beings with a soul. They also put in a lot of their own time doing things for the public, and none of this do you see in the papers.
We have some of the best police officers in this country right here in Lewiston, and we should stand beside or behind them and support them because they are doing a job we cannot do or will not do.
