WALTHAM, Mass – Zak Ray poured in 15 points including a pair of three-pointers to pace Bates College to a 68-61 win over Colby-Sawyer to capture the Brandeis Tip-Off Championship Sunday afternoon.

Bryan Wholey and Elliott Linsley chipped in with 10 points each in the win for the Bobcats (2-0).

Chris Condon poured in a game-high 20 points for Colby-Sawyer in the loss.

Brandeis 98, Mount Ida 51

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bryan Lambert and Rocco Toppi each poured in 14 points to lead Brandies University to a 98-51 win over Mount Ida College in the consolation game of the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Lambert hauled down 12 rebounds to go along with his offensive outburst while Toppi hit 4-of-6 three point attempts as the Judges (1-1) cruised to the win.

Mt. Ida was led by Robert Bartlett with 11 points.

UNE 86, River College 71

NASHUA, N.H. – Matt McManus drained a game-high 18 points and Mark Oliver scored 14 points, hauled down 10 rebounds, and dished out eight assists as the University of New England captured the River College Invitational with an 86-71 win Sunday afternoon.

The Nor’easters (2-0) jumped out to a 43-34 lead at the end of the first half and maintained the lead throughout the second half to capture the tournament.

River College was paced by John McMahon and John McAllen with 24 and 21 points respectivley.

Colby 65, Emmanuel College 60

BOSTON, MA – Mike Rutherford and Nick Farrell scored 13 points apiece to lead Colby College to A 65-60 win over Emmanuel College in men’s basketball action Sunday afternoon.

The Saints (1-1) held a slim 35-34 lead at the end of the first half behind a 16 point effort by Toliver Thomas, but were unable to withstand the White Mules (2-0) second-half charge.

Pat McGowan and Michael Westbrooks added 10 points each in the win for Colby.

Hesser 75, CMCC 71

AUBURN – Steven Chamberlin poured in a game-high 29 points including six three-pointers to lead Hesser College to a 75-71 win over Central Maine Community College in men’s hoop action Sunday evening.

Ika Ojimba and Paul Prince added 19 and 15 points respectively in the win.

The Mustangs (4-3) were paced by Mike Graham (26 points) and Chris Brackett (22 points).

Women’s basketball

SMU 58, Maine 44

DALLAS, TX- Sarah Davis drained 14 points and Janielle Dodds chipped in with 13 points to pace Southern Methodist University to a 58-44 win over the University of Maine in women’s basketball action Sunday.

The Mustangs (2-0) broke out to a 24-17 lead at the intermission and never looked back as they cruised to the win.

The Black Bears (0-3) were led by Monica Peterson with a team-high 10 points.
