In response to Kenneth Murray’s letter (Nov.13), Rex Rhoades is anything but a poor American and a poor loser. The noted 19th century writer and humorist Mark Twain once said, “a true patriot is one who loves his country but isn’t afraid to criticize his government.”

Mr. Rhoades is indeed a true patriot. He wasn’t afraid to point out the hypocrisy in the president’s policies and actions over the last four years. The president and his neoconservative advisers have shown callous disregard for environmental policy, sound fiscal judgment, relations with our European allies and respect for those of alternative lifestyles.

Mr. Rhoades is a true patriot and beacon of light in a nation living under the shroud of neoconservatism. Bravo, Mr. Rhoades, and I hope he keeps shining the light.
