BRUNSWICK – Edward J. Poitras, 83, of Thornton Way, and formerly of Prospect Street in Topsham, died Monday, Nov. 22, at the Mere Point Nursing Center following a long illness.

He was born in Topsham, on Dec. 18, 1920, the son of Leonce and Helena Lachance Poitras and attended local schools.

“Eddie” was a lifelong resident of Topsham. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired from the Bath Iron Works and spent many summers at his cottage on Woodbury Pond in Litchfield.

He is survived by his second wife of 24 years, Dorothy Quirion Poitras; one brother, Rene Poitras, of Quebec, Canada; one stepson, Paul and his wife, Dotty Bousquet, of Glastonbury, Conn; three grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Carey Oliver, of Charlottesville, Va., Marc and his wife, Sally Bousquet, of West Hartford, Conn., and Christina Bousquet, of Bar Harbor; three great-grandchildren, Joshua and Emily Oliver, of Virginia, and Ella Bousquet of Conn.; one sister-in-law, Rose Poitras, of Brunswick.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Emilia Ouellette Poitras, Dec. 3, 1972; four brothers, Armand, Robert, Leo and Jean Paul Poitras; and one sister, Cecile Poitras.
