LEWISTON – The Salvation Army will have a staff of volunteers ready to accept applications from families in the Lewiston/Auburn Area for Christmas assistance the week of Dec. 6 through 10.

Applicants will be required to provide photo identification, receipts for income and expense to the household and for children. The applicant must have primary custody.

Applications will be received from 10 a.m. through 1 p.m.

No applications will be accepted after Dec. 10 to allow time to gather the items needed to fill the applications.

The Salvation Army has also opened the Coats for Kids distribution center. Coats will be given to those in need from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the former New England Furniture Store, 155 Lisbon St.

Each year the Coats for Kids Program collects donated coats through drop-off sites at Shaw’s and Hannaford stores. The Salvation Army brings them to Pratt Abbott Dry Cleaners where they are cleaned and prepared for distribution throughout the state.

This year’s annual Coats for Kids collection day will be held across the state on Saturday, Dec. 4. WCSH 6 will be on hand to collect coats from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shaw’s, East Avenue.

Church groups, schools and civic groups are asked to collect Coats for Kids and bring them to Shaw’s on the kick-off date.
