WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester IceCats scored four goals in the second period to pull away for a 9-3 win over the Portland Pirates on Wednesday night.

Alexei Shkotov, Konstantin Zakharov and Brendan Brooks had two goals each, while Dennis Wideman, Jeff Hoggan and John Pohl had one each. Defensemen Trevor Byrne and Mike Mottau had three assists apiece. Boyd Gordon, Owen Fussey and Brian Sutherby scored for Portland.

Worcester had a 3-2 lead after the period. Pohl made it 4-2 at 4:32 of the second period, then the IceCats scored three more times in the final five minutes of the period for a 7-2 lead after two.

Manchester 4 , Norfolk 1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Mathieu Garon stopped 33 of 34 shots and Mike Cammalleri added a pair of goals as the Manchester Monarchs defeated the Norfolk Admirals 4-1.

With a 1-0 lead heading into the third period, Tom Kostopoulos found the back of the net for a two-goal advantage. The lead was extended to 3-0 when Cammalleri connected on a power-play opportunity for his second goal of the game.

The Admirals then got on the board when Quintin Laing tipped home a shot on the power play to make the score 3-1.

The Monarchs re-established their three-goal advantage when Dan Welch knocked home a pass from Matt Ryan.
