Army Spc. Mico Morin, a Turner native, remained in critical condition Wednesday at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo.

Kimberly Langston, the hospital’s spokeswoman, said there had been no change in the Fort Carson soldier’s condition since he was admitted Monday.

Morin’s family issued a written statement Wednesday night, thanking friends and others for their support while declining interviews with the media.

“We are so thankful for everyone’s wonderful support,” the statement said. “We appreciate the help and encouragement provided by our friends, our community in Maine, the Fort Carson community and Mico’s unit and the doctors and staff at Swedish. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.”

Morin, 22, was critically injured when he was tossed from a car that went out of control on Interstate 25 on Monday. He and two other GIs were on their way to a Denver airport to catch planes home for Thanksgiving.

Another passenger in the car, Spc. Sara Richardson, 22, of Wheatland, Mo., died at the crash site.

The driver, Spc. Dan Schroth, 22, of Beaver Falls, Pa., is in serious condition at the hospital.

Morin’s sister, Nancy, said Tuesday that her brother’s lungs had collapsed, and that he has fractures in his neck and back as well as other extensive injuries.

People may send their thoughts to Morin and his family at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo., via the Internet.

To send a message, people may go to www.swedishhospital.com, click on “Patient Resources,” then click on “E-mail a Patient” and follow the instructions.

Langston said the messages are delivered to patients at least once a day and sometimes more often.
