BOSTON (AP) – Mayor Thomas Menino has criticized colleges for being slow to discipline students blamed for much of the rowdy and sometimes violent celebrations after recent Red Sox playoffs victories.

The day after the Red Sox’ Oct. 20 pennant victory over the New York Yankees, Menino urged schools to immediately expel students caught setting fires or destroying property.

But more than a month later, officials at schools including Northeastern University, Boston University and Boston College have yet to discipline most of the roughly 21 students arrested after the pennant win, The Boston Globe reported Thursday.

Officials at the colleges said they are following their disciplinary policies by allowing accused students time to present their own defenses.

Vt. schedules more flu clinics

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) – Vermonters at high risk from the flu who missed last week’s flu shot clinics will have another chance to get vaccinated.

Home health care providers and Visiting Nurses’ Associations will hold a series of smaller clinics starting next week to dispense the 6,000 doses still remaining.

“We’re hearing from health care providers and folks in public that they either didn’t hear about the clinics or they didn’t get the vaccine,” said State Epidemiologist Cort Lohff. “So we do anticipate that there is a continued need for vaccine. What that need is is hard to determine at this point.”So far clinics have been organized Monday in Springfield, Tuesday in Chester, Wednesday afternoon in Bellows Falls and Thursday afternoon in Brattleboro.
