LEWISTON – The city’s holiday festivities will center on Lisbon Street on Dec. 8, with caroling starting at one end and the lighting of holiday ornaments at the other.

Carolers, led by Mayor Lionel Guay, the Lewiston High School band and the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council, will walk from VIP Discount Auto up Lisbon Street to Courthouse Plaza. Carolers are being asked to gather at the VIP store at 5:30 p.m.

The group is expected reach the plaza by 6 p.m. for a community sing-along, led by Nick Knowlton of the Music Connection, his 28-foot boom box, and local singers Bette Sanborn and Greg Curry.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand at the plaza, greeting children. Other participants include the Lewiston Regional Technical Center’s law enforcement cadets and the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army will provide complimentary hot chocolate and doughnut holes.

At 6:55 p.m., Rabbi Hillel Katzir of Temple Shalom will light a Hanukkah menorah. Santa will then light the Christmas tree. This year’s tree was donated by Michael and Kelly Craft of Lewiston.

Oxford Networks is acting as the premium sponsor of this year’s holiday event. Other partners are the city of Lewiston, the Sun Journal, the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, VIP Discount Auto, Rowe Lewiston, Cote Crane & Rigging, and the Salvation Army.

Rowe Lewiston has donated the use of a shuttle van for the event to aid both people who park in dowtown garages and carolers who want to return to the VIP lot afterwards.
