A letter printed in the Sun Journal Nov. 21 from Guy Mahon suggested that my letter of Nov. 13, regarding the Rex Rhoades’ column of Nov. 7, was written either in anger or by an angry man. That is not the case.

I was appalled that Mr. Rhoades’ column continued the hate and venom that has been directed at President Bush for over two years. Mr. Mahon, like so many other Democrats, repeats the mantra that Bush lied to lead us to war. Someone explain the lie, please, once and for all. Bush did say that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Was that the lie? They may not have had them when we finally went in, but we know that Saddam Hussein used chemical and/or nerve gas on his own people, killing thousands and thousands of Kurds.

The United Nations, John Kerry and the majority of Democrats in the Congress said he had them, too. Did they all lie as well?

We both know that our terrorist enemies will use any means to kill free people. Could a responsible president allow the possibility of those kinds of weapons to fall into the hands of these “killers without conscience?” What would Mahon and others have said about our president had he allowed that to happen?

I was not writing in anger. My candidate won. I am delighted. However, I was appalled and insulted, as Mahon suggested. Still am!
