RUMFORD – The local chapter of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shoppe on Route 2. Taste of Bethel
BETHEL – The annual Taste of Bethel on Saturday, Dec. 4, will feature as many as 15 restaurateurs offering samples of their specialties for 75 cents each. The event is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. in the Telstar High School cafeteria on Route 26.
There will also be a theme wreath auction from noon to 2 p.m., with the highest bidder of each wreath announced shortly after 2 p.m.
Afterward, free horse-drawn wagon rides in the Bethel village will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. The meeting place for these rides is in front of the Bethel Inn and Country Club.
Community Days
NEWRY – Sunday River’s Community Days, which provides free or discounted prices for skiing and riding, rental equipment, clinics and food, have been announced for the 2004-2005 season.
Community Days for all residents of the SAD 44 are Sundays, Dec. 12, Jan. 2, Feb. 6 and April 3. In addition, SAD 44 residents are invited to the White Cap Fun Center for evenings of tubing or ice skating on Thursdays, Jan. 13, Feb. 3 and March 3.
SAD 44 includes Andover, Bethel, Greenwood, Newry and Woodstock.
For residents who live in SADs 17, 21 and 43, Community Days are Sundays, Dec. 19 and March 27. These districts include Rumford, Mexico, Byron and Roxbury Pond, Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Harrison, Hebron, Norway, Otisfield, Oxford, Paris, Waterford and West Paris.
In order to participate in Community Days, children’s names must be on a district list provided to Sunday River by each superintendent’s office. Adults who wish to participate must show proof that they are residents of the eligible communities by showing a driver’s license, tax bill or other official document.
Christmas fair
DIXFIELD – The annual Christmas fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Dixfield Congregational Church. There will be crafts, baked goods, candy, cheese, wreaths and candy cane swags. The event will also include a white elephant table, a raffle and a silent auction. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Take-outs will be available. More information may be obtained by calling 562-4582.
