SOUTH HARPSWELL – Amy Cattley Rock, M.D., 94, died Monday, Nov. 22, after a brief illness.

Born May 1, 1910, she graduated from Mt. Holyoke College and New York University School of Medicine.

She married Dr. Daniel Rock in 1944. They both established their medical practices in Lewiston in 1945.

Dr. Cattley (Rock) was the first female board-certified physician in Maine, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. She was beloved by her patients. Not only was she a compassionate physician, but also as a women, she had personally experienced all the emotions of childbirth. She delivered children from all corners of the state.

After retiring from active medical practice, she worked for the State of Maine, helping to establish its initial family planning center.

Amy Rock and her husband retired to South Harpswell, where she resided until her death.

Her husband died in 1995.

She is survived by three children, Lucretia Brendler and her husband, Charles, of Chicago, Ill., Ida “Pinky” Noll and her husband, Jon, of Springfield, Ill., and Frederick Rock and his wife, Georgiana, of Stow, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
