PHILADELPHIA – Allen Iverson stole an inbound pass, drove down the court and made a layup at the buzzer, giving the Philadelphia 76ers a 116-114 overtime victory over the Washington Wizards on Friday.

Iverson finished with 28 points and 13 assists, Kyle Korver scored 26 and Marc Jackson added 21 for the Sixers, who have won two straight.

Antawn Jamison had 27 points and 15 rebounds, Gilbert Arenas scored 23 and Larry Hughes had 20 for the Wizards.

Washington, which had won three in a row, was without coach Eddie Jordan, who was hospitalized with a blood clot in his left leg and is expected to miss one more game. Assistant Mike O’Koren coached the Wizards in Jordan’s absence.

With 3.9 seconds left, the Wizards had the ball and were trying to set up a final shot. Iverson jumped in front of a pass by Jarvis Hayes that was intended for Arenas, streaked down the right side ahead of Arenas and scored his basket with 0.2 seconds left.

Hayes had sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer in regulation, after Jackson missed two free throws that would have sealed the win for Philadelphia.

A 3-pointer by Korver and a long jumper by Jackson gave the Sixers a 110-109 lead with 2:10 left in overtime. After Hayes missed a 3-pointer, Jackson made a hook shot to put the Sixers ahead 112-109.

Arenas answered with a driving layup, but John Salmons hit a 13-footer for Philadelphia. Hayes then hit another 3 to tie it at 114 with 26.5 seconds left.

Hughes had 12 points in the fourth quarter, including a 3-pointer and jumper that capped an 8-0 run and pulled Washington within 91-90 with just under 5 minutes left.

Iverson missed six of his first eight shots, finishing 9-for-26.

Hughes, a former Sixers first-round pick, fell one assist short of a triple-double. Brendan Haywood had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Washington.

The Sixers closed out the second quarter with a 16-4 run to take a 52-44 halftime lead. Korver started it with a 3-pointer and Iverson and Salmons each also hit 3s during the spurt.

Mavericks 92, Blazers 83

DALLAS – Marquis Daniels had a block, a steal and three straight assists in a just over a two-minute span in the fourth quarter Friday, helping push the Dallas Mavericks to a 92-83 win over the Portland Trail Blazers that ended a three-game losing streak.

Portland was within 71-69 when Ruben Patterson scored with 7:40 left, then Alan Henderson missed two free throws and gave the Trail Blazers a chance to tie for the first time since the game’s opening minutes. But Daniels made sure that didn’t happen.

Daniels blocked Nick Van Exel’s shot in the lane, and then got the ball to Jason Terry for a 15-footer. Daniels then stole a pass from Patterson and fed Josh Howard for another basket.

After Zach Randolph scored for the Blazers, Daniels worked the ball inside to Erick Dampier for a rim-rattling slam that put Dallas ahead 77-71 and in control of the game.

While Daniels had the key late spurt, three Mavericks had double-double games. Daniels finished with 15 points and five assists.

Dirk Nowitzki had 23 points and 14 rebounds, his second straight double-double since missing a game with a sprained left ankle. Dampier had 11 points and 11 rebounds just two days after being held to a point in 31 minutes against San Antonio.

Howard added 20 points and 10 rebounds.

While the Mavericks were still below the 104-point scoring average they had before their losing streak, they scored more than 82 for the first time in four games. Technically, they still shot below 40 percent again – 39.7 percent on 31-of-78 shooting.

Derek Anderson had 23 points for Portland, which was coming off consecutive wins in Florida against Miami and Orlando. Randolph added 16 points, and Damon Stoudamire had 10 assists.

Anderson got the Trail Blazers within 61-60 after two straight baskets late in the third quarter. He drove for a layup high off the glass, then hit a 3-pointer after a Mavericks miss.

Nowitzki then hit five free throws in 32 seconds before Anderson hit another 3-pointer from the top of the key to make it 66-63.

Dallas never trailed after an early 18-3 run that started with Dampier’s tip-in in the first quarter. That got the Mavs within 15-14, and they led 30-18 by time Jerry Stackhouse hit a 15-footer early in the second.

Portland then scored 11 straight points over the next 51/2 minutes, getting within 30-29 on Anderson’s free throw.

Daniels finally ended the Mavericks’ scoring drought on an ally-oop dunk from Nowitzki, and Howard drove for a layup to make for a 34-29 lead – the same margin Dallas had at halftime.

Notes: Michael Finley, who missed Dallas’ last nine games with a sprained right ankle, is expected to be out at least another week. … Van Exel, traded from Dallas after the 2002-03 season, was scoreless in 21 minutes, missing all six of his shots.
