LEWISTON – Paul A. Berube, 69, of Lewiston passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, shortly upon arrival at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born in Lewiston July 3, 1935, the son of Albert and Florence Fournier Berube.

He was employed in the local shoe manufacturing industries for most of his adult working life. For many years, he worked two, sometimes three jobs, to support his family, and never complained.

He was an avid outdoorsman, and mostly enjoyed being with those he loved especially his family and friends. His enduring smile, kind eyes, and slightly less than average height defined him physically. Even so, he was a man who walked very tall.

He will be remembered for his sincerity, genuineness and kindness. When he took someone’s hand into his own, there was an honest and warm connection.

All who knew him were affected by his kindheartedness and noble generosity. If he sensed that a person was in need, he would extend a helping hand, often at great personal sacrifice to himself. He never waited to be asked for help, and when he did extend himself, he would never speak of it again, quietly moving on to the next day, thinking nothing of the positive impact he had on those lives he touched.

He will be remembered for being more than a father, for he truly was a “Dad.” Paul will also be remembered for accepting everyone’s imperfections, as he was never judging. He simply found goodness in everyone he met. All those who were fortunate to know him have gained much from his wisdom and good sense. The memories remain and always will, and we know his sons will play catch with Dad again, his daughters will sit in his lap, and his friends will be laughing with him again. Paul didn’t live long enough, but he did live life with everything he had. He also managed to help nameless others, even in death, giving of himself to the New England Organ Bank.

He was a very proud Dad. He will be missed by all.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Lisa Albert, of Lewiston, as well as his step-children, Scott, April, and Kevin and his wife, Angela, to whom he was a supportive and loving father.

He is also survived by sons, Tim Berube and Norman Berube, of Auburn; daughters, Linda Adler and her husband, Gary Alder, of South Paris, and Diane Dugal and her husband, Bert Dugal, of Durham; a twin sister, Pauline Boudreau and her husband, Robert, a niece, Anne Marie, and a nephew, Rick, all of Massachusetts; and eight grandchildren, Christiana, Collin, Ashley, Timothy, Spencer, Jason, Amy and Kyle.
