I am appalled at the lack of common sense shown by our hospitals in the organization of flu shots offered Nov. 20.

I don’t know how it went at St. Mary’s, but at the Multi-Purpose Center it was heartbreaking. The very long lines of many frail elderly, some in wheel chairs, many with oxygen systems and other illnesses, standing in line outdoors for hours. Is there no place in the cities where these people could have been inside?

This had to be planned weeks in advance, and we live in Maine. The weather could have been so much worse. What were they thinking?

They were not thinking, or was it not supposed to be for those in poor health?

Just the caregivers, if so why were the truly sick even given the paper they needed to be served? My husband was told “it’s first come, first served until supply runs out,” and I’m sure everyone was told that.

It was to start at 8 a.m. By then there was a long line of very cold people who had been waiting two hours or more. The personnel did open the doors a little early. Everyone expected to wait, but I would have expected the lines to be inside.

I was not there to get a shot but was happy that I went with my husband so I could stand in line for him while he warmed up in the car.

To say I am upset is putting it mildly.
