LEWISTON – City officials want to remind all dog owners that they must license their pets by Jan. 1, 2005.

State law requires all dogs to be licensed every year in their city or town. The licenses are available at the clerk’s office at Lewiston City Hall.

In order to license a dog, the owner must show proof that the dog has a current rabies vaccination. If available, papers showing that the dog has been spayed or neutered should also be shown.

All dog licenses expire on Dec. 31. It cost $6 to renew the license if the dog is spayed or neutered; $10 if it isn’t.

The City Clerk’s Office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone with questions can call 784-2956.
