LEWISTON – Evelyn E. Howard Merrill, 94, of 1458 Turner St., Auburn, died Saturday, Nov. 27, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion after a one-month illness.

Born in Sabattus, June 22, 1910, she was a daughter of Osbourne and Mabel Gray Hartford.

She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1928.

She was married to Richard L. Howard on June 22, 1929, until his death on Feb. 17, 1973.

On May 22, 1974, she married Albert Merrill, who died June 24, 1987.

She attended East Auburn Baptist Church, and worked in the local shoe industry as a fancy stitcher.

She enjoyed letter writing and embroidery.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy A. Douglass and her husband, Larry, of Auburn; a son, Robert A. Howard and his wife, Marie, of Auburn; two stepdaughters, Dorothy LeClair, of Rhode Island, and Mavis Pomeroy and her husband, David, of Pittsfield; two stepsons, A. Lawrence Merrill and his wife, Muriel, of Lisbon, and Leonard and Carolyn Merrill, of New York; grandchildren, Bonnie Phillips, Jill and Lionel Guay, Deanna and Brian Trudeau, Kathy Howard, Timothy and Martha Howard, and Daniel and Kristal Howard; and great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Alexander, Ashley, Caitlin, Howard, Darcy, David and Caleb; and step-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Barbara Pomeroy, Albert, Ernest and Emily Merrill, and Brian and Deborah Carlson.

She was predeceased by five sisters and two brothers.
