Erin Campbell, a sophomore forward on the University of Maine at Farmington women’s soccer team, has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team in the College Division.
Campbell, a Hampden native, carries a 4.0 GPA in Elementary Education while maintaining a starting position on the UMF soccer team. In two years at UMF, Campbell scored 30 goals and handed out 16 assists. As a freshman she set the school record for goals in a rookie seasons with 18 and was named the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year.
Maine to host free basketball clinic
ORONO – The University of Maine and the NCAA will host a free Youth Basketball Clinic at Memorial Gym on Saturday, Dec. 4 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The clinic is open to youth participants from ages six to 13. Every registrant will receive the following: a free NCAA Game Day T-shirt, one free NCAA Game Day basketball, one free ticket to Maine Basketball vs. Harvard on Dec. 4 at 2 p.m., a free pizza lunch, and a free goodie bag with great gifts.
All clinic participants will receive instruction in the following areas: life skills, offensive skills, defensive skills, free throws/shooting, layups, scrimmage session.
University of Maine athletic director Patrick Nero will welcome all participants along with Maine head men’s basketball coach Ted Woodward. Participating Maine athletes will hold an autograph session and take photos with participants.
Participants may sign up on the day of the event at the field house beginning at 8:30 a.m. or in advance by calling (207) 581-4849.
Maine Hall seeks nominations
Founded in 1969, the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame honors players, coaches, umpires, organizers and benefactors who have achieved prominence in, or made valuable contributions to baseball in Maine.
