LISBON – There was little opposition Tuesday night to create a community school district with Durham and a new jointly owned high school.

At the School Committee meeting, attended by about 50 people, questions were asked about the condition of the Lisbon-Durham bridge, whether a larger high school would change Lisbon’s class in sports and what would happen if voters approved a district.

School officials explained that the plan would move forward if the district high school article is approved, but that the district Advisory Committee, which made the original recommendations, would be asked to reconvene to develop new recommendations. This would require another election, School Department spokesman Cathy Messmer said.

A public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. today at Durham Elementary School to discuss that proposal, as well as one for a five-year tuition contract from Brunswick High School.

A referendum will take place in both towns Dec. 14, with absentee ballots available from the respective town clerks.
