Art show
FARMINGTON – Artist Mary Beth Morrison of Farmington will display her paintings during December at Heirlooms of Tomorrow. The show will begin with an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. Morrison will be greeting guests and explaining her work, which includes landscapes of inland Maine, seascapes, still lifes, interiors and winter scenes. Heirlooms of Tomorrow is at 710 Wilton Road across from Franklin Memorial Hospital.
Alcohol awareness
FARMINGTON – The Healthy Community Coalition will hold a parent information session from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, in the Mt. Blue Middle School cafeteria. Since Dec. 6 is Alcohol Awareness Day, the session will focus on ways parents can speak with their children about alcohol. Refreshments, child care and door prizes will be provided. Support group
FARMINGTON – The Breast Cancer Support Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the Allen Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital. The group is for women who have or have had breast cancer. It will be a brainstorming session to plan the 2005 programs. Rita Porter, a patient support nurse, will be the facilitator. Light refreshments will be served. Offered in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and the Healthy Community Coalition, the group is a free service of the hospital’s Martha B. DAR meeting
FARMINGTON – The Colonial Daughters Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its next meeting, a Christmas Tea Party, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the home of Clarice Sturtevant. Members will share special Christmas memories. An annual collection will be taken for the Opportunity Farm in New Gloucester.
Financial aid
JAY – A financial aid information presentation for the parents of Jay High School seniors will be given at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the Jay High School Library. Ron Milliken, director of financial aid at the University of Maine at Farmington, will present information on the financial aid application process, types and sources of financial aid, and will also be able to respond to questions. United Way finale
FARMINGTON – The Tri Valley United Way has rescheduled its campaign finale night from Dec. 9 to Jan. 11. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the North Dining Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington. The Western Mountain Trash Can Band will perform. Plaques and gifts will be presented.
