BUCKFIELD – The Oddfellow Theater will present “A Country Christmas with The Don Campbell Band” for two shows Saturday, Dec. 18.

This is Campbell’s second visit to this theater and, due to last year’s success, a second show was added for this year.

Earlier this year, country music artist Don Campbell released “Backyard Holiday,” his seventh CD of original music.

This year, the band also received a Boston Music Awards nomination for Country Act of the Year. The band also was named Country Artist of the Year in Jam Music Magazine’s readers poll, covering New Hampshire and parts of Vermont and Massachusetts.

This year, Campbell has welcomed several new band members. Joining on guitar is Sumner McKane, a young virtuoso known in Northern New England for his work with country artist Jenny Paquette.

Playing drums is Todd Richard, former drummer for Boston’s Scarlet Haven and several other pop/rock acts. Tonya Shevenell has made a leap from band manager to bassist. Also performing with the band is fiddle player Andy Happel, former frontman for Thanks to Gravity and a member of Don’s band since 2000.

On July 24, the band was the opening act for the New England Country Music Festival, headlined by the reigning king of country, Toby Keith. It attracted an estimated 40,000 fans.

In other fair and festival performances, the band has share the stage with such stars as Tanya Tucker, Randy Travis, Charlie Daniels, Little Texas, Ricochet, Bering Strait and Jeff Bates.

The “Backyard Holiday” album includes playful tunes such as “Hot Tub” and “Mr. Bill Gates” to the reflection of “Place Behind the Sun.”

Campbell’s original song, “Giving Man,” won Holiday Song of the Year in the 2004 Just Plain Folks Music Awards held in Hollywood on Nov. 7.
