LEWISTON – Blanche B. Levasseur, 79, of 830 Main St., Lewiston, went home to the Lord Friday morning, after a long illness, Dec. 3, at her home.

She was born in Edmunston, N.B., Canada, on April 25, 1925, the daughter of Philippe and Armance (Hudon) Pelletier.

She resided in Lewiston most of her life and was a member of Saint Peter and Paul Church.

She married Gerard O. Levasseur at Saint Peter and Paul Church on Dec. 1, 1947. He passed away on Nov. 30, 1971.

She worked at Bates Mill in Lewiston for many years. When not working in local area textile mills, she was a devoted homemaker.

Later in life, she became a talented maker of crafts. She donated knitted slippers and beadwork to area charities and relatives.

She was also a member of the Lewiston Senior Citizens. She was fond of her pet dogs through the years and took great care of them.

She is survived by her son, Gerard O. Levasseur Jr. and his wife, Vicki, and their son, Benjamin, of Canton, Ill.; her daughter, Doris Wilcher, and her daughters, Kendell and Mayeh, of Oakland, Calif.; her son, Jude P. Levasseur of Lewiston and his fiance, Teresa Couture, of Auburn; her brother, Alfred Pelletier and his wife, Marie, of Biddeford, and their sons, David, Peter and Vincent; her sister-in-law, Cecile Levasseur of Auburn; her niece, Florence Annear and her husband, Doug, of Minot, and their sons, DJ and Scott; her nephew, Roger Levasseur, and his wife, of Maryland; her niece, Dorothy Smith and her husband, Michael, of Sabattus; and her niece, Pauline Lafleur of Florida.

Blanche and her family offer many heart-felt thanks to the people who helped her through her long battle: Her doctors, Alex, Charles, and Amir; her nurses, Lori, Karen, Lori, Chris, Donna, Rita, and Doug of the office of Dr. Modarressi. A special thanks to nurses Lisa Ewing and Caryn Demers of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for their thoughtful caring nature with Blanche that allowed her to pass her final days with peace and dignity.
