The following letters were written by sixth-grade students at Farwell School in Lewiston. As some of them note, they won’t be attending the proposed new school, if it’s approved in Tuesday’s referendum, but they all hope a new school is built.
Replace Farwell

I think Farwell School should be torn down for a lot of reasons.

First of all, the playground is way too small for four grades at one time with about 21 kids in each grade. Also, the Dumpsters are right near the basketball hoops, and sometimes the ball goes in there. The basketball hoops are also torn up, and the ground goes up and down sometimes because after a rainy day, there are tons of puddles all over the tar.

The second reason is that there are a lot of cracks and leaks in places. In the lunchroom and hallways, the bottom of the floor is coming off, and there looks like there is mold there. Also, the lunchroom is our gym too. I don’t really like the idea of eating where kids run and sweat all over the place!

I will not be here next year for the new school if it passes, but I want the fifth-, fourth-, third-, second- and first-graders, and kindergartners to have a new school to look forward to. I will certainly miss Farwell School.
