LISBON – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9459 and Auxiliary, Route 196, have adopted an additional four armed service units serving overseas.
The post has received request from a hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, where the injured soldiers are taken prior to returning home. A doctor has requested items for the waiting rooms for the children, including coloring books, crayons, activity books, children’s books and children’s VCR movies.
Another request came from a hospital in Bagdad. Needed for wounded soldiers are toiletry items, candy, joke books and things that can boost morale. They would like words of encouragement. If schools could get their students involved in writing letters, the post will send to them.
Members are collecting items and will continue sending boxes until the soldiers are home. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Call 353-5291 or 353-4879 and leave a message.
