MEXICO – Grant applications and updates on current ones are among the topics to be discussed at Wednesday’s selectmen’s meeting.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the town office conference room.

Town Manager Joseph Derouche said he will seek approval from selectmen to apply for a state planning grant that could help in regionalization efforts, as well as a Maine Department of Transportation Gateway grant that could help economic development. He will also update the board on a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant aimed at alleviating the effects of flooding.

All matters related to the town’s budget shortfall will likely be deferred to a special meeting to be set later in the week, Chairman Arthur Bordeau said.

Also on the agenda is discussion on a letter received from Dixfield requesting a meeting of area towns to look at possible ways municipalities could work together.

Deoruche said Wednesday’s meeting may be his last official selectmen’s meeting. Although a second regular board meeting is scheduled for December, Derouche said medical reasons may prevent him from attending.

Other agenda items include: an update on the town’s valuation, a report on the higher costs for employee health insurance premiums, awarding the contract for the sale of the municipal car, and a report by the road commissioner.

A closed session to deal with a town manager personnel issue is scheduled at the end of the meeting.
