PARIS – A Dixfield man was convicted Wednesday on a felony forgery charge in Oxford County Superior Court.
Robert A. Elliott, 36, pleaded guilty to a charge of forging more than 100 checks owned by the man with whom he was living, from December 2002 through September 2003.
Judge Ellen Gorman sentenced Elliott to five years in jail, with all suspended, and placed Elliott on probation for four years.
Elliott was also ordered to pay $250 a month in restitution for 40 months.
An Oxford County grand jury indicted him on Aug. 18 for endorsing checks with a face value exceeding $10,000.
According to documents in Elliott’s court file, he was alleged to have cashed the checks for a total of $12,320 over 10 months.
