SHAPLEIGH (AP) – A Berlin, N.H., man wanted for attempted murder in Massachusetts has been arrested in Maine, the U.S. Marshals Service said Wednesday.

The service said Travis Perkins, 25, was arrested Tuesday in Shapleigh hiding in a family member’s basement.

Perkins was wanted for failing to appear in Middlesex County Superior Court in Cambridge, Mass., after being indicted on a charge of assault with intent to murder in August.

The marshals service said the indictment stemmed from a 15-mile chase in which Lowell, Mass., police pursued a stolen car driven by Perkins.

Perkins allegedly ran a police cruiser off the road, crashed into another police car and injured an officer.

At the time of the chase, Perkins was wanted for a probation violation, and assault to rob charges, the service said.

Middlesex County Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Dunigan said Perkins could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

He was held without bail pending extradition to Massachusetts.
