Every now and then, we have an opportunity to directly affect a special happening that will impact the lives of many people in a very positive way. This will come about on Dec. 14 when the citizens of Durham and Lisbon can vote to join together and form a Durham-Lisbon Consolidated School District. The final result being a new high school that would provide the educational needs of both towns for grades 9 through 12.

The school committees, citizens committee and selectmen of Durham and Lisbon have been working diligently to bring the process to this juncture.

A new high school would provide a permanent home for Durham students. Citizens will have a direct input and participation into the school’s policies, curriculums and activities.

When people vote on Dec. 14, they should think of the long-term benefits a new CSD high school will have for both towns.

As a man said at a recent meeting in Durham, “We’re really one community separated only by a river.”
