LISBON – The Lisbon Trails Commission has set the winter schedule of activities for the Paper Mill Trails, voting to keep it open for multiple use during the winter months.

A 5-foot path will be kept open for the “hardy” winter hikers. This will provide 8-feet of snow-covered trail for snowmobilers and skiers, and these trail activities could continue if they work out this season, a commission spokesman said.

The Trails Commission has been working to complete a trail maintenance grant application, which, if approved, would provide funds for paving the trail head parking lot at the Miller Park Boat ramp, trail benches, toilet facilities and maintenance labor costs.

Preliminary work on the second segment of the Lisbon Trails network from the Lisbon Community School to Webster Street is now in progress and construction is planned in the spring and summer of 2005.

Norris Ingersoll has been elected trails commission chairman and Sandy Craig vice-chairperson. Other commission members are: Pauline Mathieu, Jason Young, Steve Doucette and Noyes Lawrence. Lisbon’s Town Engineer Ryan Leighton is a welcomed advisor to the group.

Folks who walk their dogs on the Paper Mill Trail are reminded by the commission not to leave pet waste on the trail.
