AUBURN – The Leah Wolfsong Band will host its ninth annual Solstice Celebration and Ceremony on Dec. 18 at the First Universalist Church, Spring Street.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the event, which will run from 7 to 10 p.m.

The program includes Native American flute players in the balconies, The Wild Goddess Choir, Spirit of the Corn (Native American Drum Group), Moonrise: Daughters of an Ancient Pulse (Women’s frame drum procession group), The Lightdancers, Solstice Singers and The Leah Wolfsong Band.

There will also be opportunities for the audience to join in with song and dance. Over 250 people attended last year’s event. Art and hand crafted items as well as refreshments will be on sale in the lobby prior to the show and during intermission.

The annual Solstice event began in 1995 as the vision of promoter John Bryson of South Berwick, who approached Leah with his belief that people were yearning for a way to come together and mark this important time of year.

Over the years the event has taken various forms as has been shaped by various members of the Leah Wolfsong Band, which for the past three years has consisted of Leah on vocals, guitar and percussion; Reinaldo Cortez on guitar, percussion and vocals; and Barbara Gail (of the Rhythm Inlet) on world percussion and vocals. The members of the band have brought their unique gifts and offerings, expanding the vision to include a whole community of performers and helpers.

Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the following locations: The Rhythm Inlet, Belgrade Road, Mt. Vernon; The Grateful Earth, College Street, Lewiston; The Corn Shop Trading Co., Main Street, Bridgton; or Pick-a-Lily, Main Street, Norway. Prices are $10 for adults, $8 seniors/adults, and under two free.
