WATERVILLE – Owen F. Bryant, 84, of Waterville died on Saturday, Dec. 11, at Oak Grove Living Center in Waterville.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1919 in Presque Isle, the son of Perley and Bertha (Rogers) Bryant.

He was educated in local schools in Oxford and Mechanic Falls.

He married Virginia Washburn of Auburn 61 years ago. They have a daughter, Shelah Bryant, who resides in Lewiston.

During World War II, he served from 1941 to 1945 as Master Gunnery Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps in the African-European and Pacific Theatres. He was in the Battles of Solomon Islands, Aleutians, Marshall Islands, New Guinea, Western Carolines, Marianas Islands, Asiatic-Pacific Raids, Leyte and Luzon. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict.

He held public office as a member of the zoning board of appeals in Brunswick from 1965 through 1967. He was also active in Masonic Order as member of the Tranquil Lodge No. 29 in Auburn, Scottish Rite Bodies of Lewiston, Maine Consistory S.P.R.S., 32nd Degree, Portland, and the Oxford Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Norway. Kora Shrine, Lewiston and Kennebec Valley Shrine Club of Lewiston.

He joined CMP company in 1941 as a groundsman in Lewiston Line Department. He subsequently advanced through all line classifications to lineman first class. In 1952, he was named District Line Foreman at Norway and in 1961 transferred to Brunswick as District Line Foreman, in 1967 we went to Waterville as Division Line Superintendent, and in 1975 to Augusta as Distribution Line Superintendent. He retired in 1988 after 47 years of working with CMP Co.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening.

Survivors are his wife, Virginia Washburn Bryant, of Waterville; his daughter, Shelah Bryant of Lewiston; sisters, Dolly Bragdon of New Gloucester, Dot MacDonald of Portland, and Lynn Bryant of Auburn; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters and brothers; Ernest Bryant, his twin sister Ernestine St. Claire, Phyllis Knight, Pauline Bryant, Robert Bryant, Leroy Bryant and Kenneth Bryant.
