Twin Cities bus riders get two chances this week to weigh in on Citylink schedules and bus routes.

The Lewiston-Auburn Transit Committee has scheduled two meetings designed to get comments from bus riders. The first is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday in Auburn Hall’s third-floor community room. The second is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Lewiston City Council Chambers at City Hall.

“We made a lot changes to service this summer, but we really don’t have a good way for passengers to tell us how it’s going,” said Transit Coordinator Marsha Bennett. “They can tell the driver, but this gives them a better opportunity to talk directly to us.”

The transit committee began a new schedule in March using two route systems, one in Lewiston and one in Auburn.

The two systems are connected by the free downtown shuttle, which runs from the Lewiston terminal on Bates Street to Central Maine Medical Center, then to Auburn’s Great Falls Plaza before returning to Lewiston.

“We want to know: Are there routes that are always late?” Bennett said. “Are there things from the passenger’s perspective we can do to make service better?”

Bennett said she began posting notices of the meetings in buses late last week. She hopes having two meetings at different times in different places will bring out more people.

“No matter when you schedule a meeting, you always get people who say they can’t make it,” Bennett said. “We’re hoping the morning meeting will bring out the elderly and the people that ride the buses all day. And we’re hoping we can get the people who work days to come out Thursday night.”
