WILTON – Selectman Rodney Hall is scheduled to appear in Rumford District Court next month to answer a charge of domestic assault.
The 37-year-old owner of Hall Farms Maple Products in East Dixfield was arrested Nov. 27 after a complaint was made by a Bethel woman, Bethel Police Chief Alan Carr said Tuesday.
Hall, of 989 Route 2 West, had left the woman’s home by the time Bethel officer Shane Thomas arrived and was found later on South Rumford Road and held by Rumford police, according to Thomas’ report.
Hall was booked at the Oxford County Jail, posted $250 cash bail and was released to appear Jan. 4 in 11th District Court in Rumford, a jail corrections officer said Tuesday night.
According to the arrest report, Hall and the woman were arguing, and he grabbed her and pushed her into the corner of a cabinet as she attempted to prevent him from leaving by standing in front of the door. The woman had several bruises, the report stated.
A protection-from-abuse order was issued against Hall by Rumford District Court and served by Wilton interim Police Chief Ed Leahy when Hall returned home from a trip to Florida in either late November or early December, Leahy said.
Hall was arrested in July 17, 2003, by Leahy for allegedly violating a protection-from-abuse order, Leahy said.
Franklin County Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said his office didn’t file a complaint on the 2003 case because there was insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Sometimes there is probable cause for arrest at the time, Andrews said, but the district attorney’s office can decide not to file a complaint if there is not enough evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Hall was unavailable for comment Tuesday.
